BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Daniel Bersh – Co-Founder, Treasurer, Board Director
Daniel is the founder and creator of Enviro Community Living Center, our parent organization, that stemmed from his original desire as a child to help others. Evidence of God’s endless love, mercy and compassion in Dan’s life gave him the courage and confidence he needed to believe that anything is possible! Daniel’s vision is for everyone to come together as brothers and sisters and turn a beautiful dream into a wonderful reality. He lives his motto to never give up on your dreams, for a better, brighter tomorrow! Dan’s ideas and motivation fuel new connections for sustainability projects world wide and he has a remarkable dedication to raising awareness and educating others. He divides his time between Detroit and Tampa, Florida, where he lives with his incredible son and family.

David Bersh – Founder, Board Director
David is a valued member of the Maui community. His deep and profound connection to the land has led to an extensive knowledge base on native Hawaiian plants, especially native foods. Bringing ohana together with his freshly ground poi is a true illustration of David’s character, as he weaves together the people and the ‘aina through the heart field. He lives his life through the philosophy of divine timing and is very connected to the cosmological roots of our beautiful planet. You’ll always find David in the forest, in the gardens or singing to the keiki ulu trees that are readying themselves for planting!

Having David and Daniel, as father and son together on the board is a testament to the heart of Kaiaulu Kanaka, the family we are and the family we share.

Liana Macdonald-Kainoa – President, Board Director
Liana Macdonald-Kainoa is a Big Island based professional Outreach Specialist, Conservationist, and Environmental Educator who is currently employed with ʻAkahiao Nature Institute, as their Community Outreach Coordinator and Liaison. Liana earned her degree in Natural Resource and Environmental Management from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and has performed various State internships and projects in community education, invasive species mitigation, and native reforestation. Her specialties are in community outreach and communications, as well as volunteer coordinating and planning. She has a dedicated passion for, and experience with, the native dryland forest species of Hawaiʻi, and has been involved in various projects to protect and preserve these unique and delicate environments.  Liana’s overall passion is to help connect people to their ecology and place, and bring about social awareness through campaign development and education initiatives. Liana is a Native Hawaiian lineal descendant of Napu’u on the Big Island, and spends most of her free time at Huʻehuʻe Ranch, leading outdoor youth programs, and connecting people to ʻāina-based opportunities.

Aaron Esparza – Board Director
Aaron has a passion for planting trees and building tiny houses. He has a vision for bringing affordable housing to those who would like to live simply, connected to the land and community. He is currently building a tiny house on the Big Island of Hawaii where he has lived for the last 4 years. Aaron has a deep respect for the ‘aina and the ocean. He loves exploring nature and is always linking connections between core community members so that we can come together to create sustainable solutions.

Aaron is a very talented musician who loves to bring people together through the unifying field music provides. He is also on the board of the YMCA and finds joy in mentoring and guiding our youth.

Steven Calkins – Board Director
Steve is the co-founder of Hungry Homeless Heroes Hawaii, a grassroots organization in Maui that is redefining hunger and food sustainability on the island. His heart, passion and connection the community are centered on reigniting the philosophy of ‘people helping people’. He focuses on forming new ways of facilitating change beyond our current paradigm and is constantly seeking to find innovative new solutions that benefit the collective. Steve’s extensive experience with travel and alternate ways of living have led to wealth of knowledge, a rich connection to the land and a trust in life that opens endless new avenues and doorways.

He is also the co-founder of Paladin (an organisation that champions noble causes and assists with bringing dreams and visions to life in the 3D) and Cosmic Cultivating (an organisation that works with planting seeds on all levels, both physically and in our hearts, minds, relationships and businesses).

Jeannine Verriest – Board Director
Jeannine is a consciousness facilitator and intuitive counsellor. She
works with the energy fields of people, businesses and organisations, restoring
the basic energetic structures (called fractal patterns), unravelling the nets
of limitation and the knots of trauma that build up over time. Jeannine uses
the technologies of consciousness to adventure into our worlds, journeying back
to parts of us that require resolution or completion and in time, assists
individuals to rekindle their love affair with life.

She is also the co-founder of Paladin (an organisation that champions noble
causes and assists with bringing dreams and visions to life in the 3D) and
Cosmic Cultivating (an organisation that works with planting seeds on all
levels, both physically and in our hearts, minds, relationships and
businesses).
